That's the best available to Miami. No matter how much you and the Miami fans hate to admit it the job isn't what it was when Johnson left and isn't the most desirable place to be. A bandwagon fan base, mediocre facilities, and no home field with no chance of ever having a home field. This ain't the U in the 80's Snoop and that will never exist again in Coral Gables.

Now here's the list: Tuberville, Sumlin, Edsall, Golden.

Do any of those guys look like the "best available coach in America" to you guys? Or am I just delusional?
I really dont know what Leach is. I dont know if hes a law suit waiting to happen, I dont know if hes a good head coach. I know hes a great offensive coach. I really dont know how he is as a leader. I know hes not that great of a recruiter in comparison to Tuberville...I just dont know.

If Golden or Edsall are hired, I think we are playing Beamer ball. That is, a coach who is a leader. Not flashy, but one thats going to minimize mistakes and make the team tougher. Talking to a former VT offensive lineman, he always told me the reason they beat Miami, is because Miami is soft in the trenches. I agree with that and Golden or Edsall is the type of coach to fix that problem. What I dont know about those 2 coaches is if they can bring anything to the table as far as using skill position players. Neither have truely had great skill position players because its difficult to recruit to those schools.

With Sumlin, you are getting the best offensive mind of those 4 but youre going to have to get him a great staff and good defensive cooridnator. I think hes probably the best recruiter of the 4.

Tubs, I think hes a retread. I just dont see what he has to offer. I know his D's will be very good, but I wonder how many offensive coordinators he will run through before he takes the blame for his teams problems.

For the record, I want Malzahn.

In a perfect world, the guy I would want is Petersen. I just don't see him leaving Boise. He's a great offensive mind, and he also has the same mentality that you're mentioning with Edsall/Golden. That being said--no chance there.

I'm just still not sold on Malzahn b/c I contribute a lot of his meteoric rise to 6'6/250. He's had success everywhere, but the reason why he's the hot up and coming guy currently is, to me, b/c of Newton.

I will tell you this, I went to the UT/Auburn game last year, and Cam owes Malzahn alot IMO. Im basing that on what I saw him do with Cox last year. Watching Auburn play is about like watching an old Loyola Marymount bball team. They move up and down the field at such a pace it is really hard on a defense. Miami fans would enjoy it. Players would enjoy it. Thats what is so intriguing to me about the NC title game. Oregon and Auburn have the two fastest tempo'd offenses in the NCAA.

Re: For those that care...(Miami related)

Cane is right, the Miami job list just got a lot less spectacular. None of those guys are the "best coach in America" like the Miami AD was claiming.

Im with mega, Gus Malzahan HAS to be #1 on the list IMO. Who knows what the outside may do, Gus may let the kids murder each other, but they will put up points and they will win games.

But from that list, Tubbs is the only coach with experience at a big time college. Golden at Temple and Edsall at Uconn have never had to deal with the pressures of a big university. Thats a big point, those guys have never had to prove they can handle big fanbases, tough fans and a demanding program.

Tubbs has had to do that at Auburn and Ole Miss.

but Tubbs is not a great coach. He will never be a big time national title contender threat. but he will build Miami to a very solid 10 win team with a nasty defense. Maybe they can let Tubbs run it for 3-4 years then fire him when the program has increased its prestige back up and get a big time coach.

Tubs is a great defensive coach. He has proven that. Those canes defense's in the 80's where some of the best in college football history. He proved it at Texas A&M as well as Ole Miss and Auburn.

The other thing is he is a good recruiter. If he does get this job I think the first call he would make would be to Eddie Gran who is a very good recruiter as well. The only thing about Tubberville is he has to find a good OC.

But if he is hired whoever he gets is going to believe in running the football. That is who he is. He tried the wide open thing with Franklin and it was a disaster. But to me you win football games by playing great defense and running the football. Tubbs believe in those things. It aint very fancy but it works and he will win at Miami. He may not be the sexiest hire out there but he could end up being the best.....

Re: For those that care...(Miami related)

Sorry guys. I'm not sold on Tubs. It's kind of one of those things--like when people like Jimbo Fisher, Butch Davis, and Frank Beamer all were telling Randy Shannon, "keep doing what you're doing, you're doing things the right way--we're behind you 100%", the whole time their teams are kicking your team's butt on the field. They didn't want him to succeed...their moral support was just that--moral. Secretly--they hoped we'd never fire Shannon.

For other fanbases' fans to tell me how great of a hire Tuberville would be just kind of turns me off to the idea, because I'm not sure you have Miami's best interests in mind. Might be petty of me, but oh well.

I think Tubs would have Miami winning the ACC. Maybe not a national title, but the ACC within 2 years.

See, that's where I draw the line. With the talent base that Miami gets year in/year out, Miami should be in Charlotte or Tampa or whereever every single year. I know that will upset some VT fans--but that's the truth. All that's missing is a coach to develop the talent that's already there and make it happen.

The ACC is an afterthought to me. That's why when VT fans or FSU fans talk about winning the ACC--I'm never impressed. It's expected at Miami--at least by most fans. Win the conference, and compete annually for the crystal football. If you build your team up good enough to win a national title, then the ACC is a piece of cake. I want a coach that has the ability to develop Miami to the point of being as good as the top tier ACC/Big T(welv)en teams. When that's the case, then Miami will be winning ACC titles w/o a problem and focusing on winning a national title.

Tuberville doesn't strike me as the guy for the job due to my criteria set out above.
